After the Stone
I broke down in the city of angels
A place where you'd think you'd find God.
But all I found was a junkie named Jesus
Who had a joint for his staff and his rod
He said fire it up and help me burn
This pain that haunts me each day
So I struck a match we watched the smoke
Carry his memories away.
But it all came back after the stone
when the smoke finally cleared he’s back alone
The hurt fell like rain
left him drenched to the bone
it all came back after the stone.
He said I run and hide to a poisonous realm
from something that I just can't face
I won't waste your time
cause it ain't worth a dime
It's best you get out of this place
I said what can I do he said I am past the point
but I thank you for your concern
then he drew a glass gun, shot it deep in his arm
again I watched his memories burn
Chorus
He said God won’t you please take me
this fight I just can't win
His prayer was answered in silence
as an overdose slowly crept in
In His right hand he held a locket
inside a photo of his family
on the back was engraved only three words
in loving memory
He didn't come back after the stone
when the smoke cleared he was no longer alone
The hurt didn't fall
And Leave him drenched to the bone
He didn’t come back after the stone.
I woke up in the city of angels
A place where I found God
